BBVA's Taipei branch has received the 2013 Golden Merchant Award from the Taiwan General Chamber of Commerce for helping forge business ties between its country, Spain and Latin America.

The Taiwan Chamber of Commerce rated highly BBVA's contribution to furthering relations between the three continents which, in turn, has helped Taiwanese companies increase their presence in Spain and Latin America.

This award is bestowed on foreign companies in Taiwan who show an interest in increasing their commercial activities in the country and contributing to growth there. Other recipients of this year's award include international companies such as Allianz Life, American Express and Ford Lio Ho Motor.

BBVA is the only Spanish bank with its own branch in Taiwan. This branch, which specializes in investment banking and global market products, was opened in July 2012, although for six years prior to that, BBVA had a representative office in the city.
