Will you join us on the journey that Iberostar Group has undertaken in line with its commitment to the oceans and to responsible tourism?

Gloria Fluxá Thienemann, Vice-Chairman & Chief Sustainability Officer at Iberostar Group, explains how the company implements innovative strategies to be a key player in responsible tourism.

• Did you know that Iberostar Group presented its decarbonisation strategy at COP27 with the objective of being carbon neutral by 2030, 20 years ahead of the industry’s global target?
• What is the Wave of Change commitment?
• How can the responsible tourism model protect the oceans, reduce pollution and the impact of climate change?

Summary text:

Iberostar Group, one of the forerunners in the commitment to the oceans and sustainable tourism, is the third protagonist of Greenfluencers, thanks to Gloria Fluxá, Vice-Chairma & CSO of the company.

Sustainability is in the DNA and at the heart of the company. In this chapter, Fluxá details how their commitment to sustainability is total and that is why they have developed solutions that make sense from a business perspective, supported by a strong scientific base and data. “With sustainability driving our business, we have worked on different roadmaps and business cases. Following the phase-out of single-use plastics in all our hotels in 2019, we have placed circular economy at the heart of our strategy and created our own 2023 Agenda, which includes major goals for the decade.”

At Greenfluencers we know first-hand how Iberostar Group was born and has grown in close connection with the sea. This is why it has developed initiatives such as Wave of Change, where they advocate a model of responsible tourism that has a positive effect on nature and where coastal communities and the ecosystems where they operate thrive, while offering a high quality and profitable experience that is enriching for customers.

There is no doubt that all actors in the business chain must be fully engaged. Examples such as that of Iberostar Group showcase that it is time for the travel and tourism industry to rise to the challenge, use existing solutions, innovate and address climate change. It is time for implementation and action.

They are Greenfluencers
