BBVA launches Asia Desk in the U.S. to support Asian multinational corporations
BBVA Corporate & Investment Banking (BBVA CIB) has launched a dedicated Asia Desk in the US, strengthening its cross-border banking capabilities for Asian multinational corporations operating in or expanding into the U.S. The new initiative underscores BBVA’s strategic commitment to supporting the growing needs of Asia-based companies as they navigate opportunities in the U.S. market.
BBVA Corporate & Investment Banking expands its strategic commitment to Asian multinational corporations with the launch of its new Asia Desk in the U.S.
To lead this effort, Daniel Kim has been appointed Senior Asia Corridor Banker, based in New York. Reporting to Antonio Zamarripa, Executive Director of the Global Subsidiaries Group in the U.S. Kim will directly manage business development and relationship management for the U.S. subsidiaries of Asian corporate clients as senior coverage banker. He will focus on origination and execution, driving both existing client relationships and new client acquisition.
Kim brings extensive experience in international corporate banking, with previous leadership roles at JA Mitsui Leasing Capital Corporation, City National Bank and MUFG. His deep expertise and strong market connectivity will be instrumental in delivering tailored solutions to BBVA's Asian clients.
“We are proud to welcome Daniel to BBVA CIB’s Global Transaction Banking team,” said Antonio Zamarripa. “His expertise and market knowledge are welcome additions to BBVA CIB and will immediately impact BBVA’s goal of being the preferred strategic partner for Asia corporates in the U.S.”.
The U.S. Asia Desk forms part of the Global Transaction Banking (GTB) division and is an integral part of BBVA’s CIB network. It will enable the bank to deliver consistent, in-depth, and dedicated banking services across its international platform. The Asia Desk will partner with BBVA product and sector specialists to provide a full array of innovative local corporate banking solutions, including loans, cash management, foreign exchange, trade finance, capital markets and risk management solutions. The Asia Desk will also build upon established relationships and synergies within the Mexico Asia Desk, capitalizing on nearshoring flows and expanding joint wallet opportunities across the Americas.
Initially, the Asia Desk will mainly focus on the Japan and South Korea corridors, with plans to expand to other Asia markets within BBVA’s footprint, including Taiwan – a market gaining strategic importance due to the semiconductor sector foreign direct investment into the U.S.
With the launch of the Asia Desk, BBVA reinforces its commitment to the Asia to U.S. corridor, strengthening connectivity with the U.S. operations of Asian clients and further positioning BBVA CIB as the strategic partner of choice for Asian multinational corporations pursuing growth in the region.
