Global Markets Corporates Spain Conference

A Forward-Looking View of the Markets from Seville

Seville became the centre of insight and debate on the major global economic, sustainability and financial innovation challenges from 17–19 September, during the Global Markets Corporates Spain event. Held in a unique setting with a top-tier agenda, the conference brought together—for the first time—clients of BBVA Spain from both the Corporate & Investment Banking (CIB) and the Corporate Banking & Institutional Banking (BEI) segments.

This event marked a milestone in how BBVA engages with its corporate clients, blending the strategic vision of leading experts with the strong commitment of BBVA CIB’s Global Internal Networks team, whose mission is to support corporates in an increasingly global, complex and demanding world.

An Agenda to Anticipate Trends

The sessions addressed the most pressing issues facing companies and financial markets today.

The event was opened by Juan Agudo, Head of Global Internal Networks at BBVA, who contextualised the importance of this joint gathering and highlighted how BBVA’s internal global networks deliver cross-cutting solutions for clients in Spain.

This was followed by a keynote from Roberto Cobo, Head of FX G10 & Asia in BBVA Global Markets Strategy, titled "Testing the Limits – Politics, Geopolitics and Monetary Cycles Pressuring Markets". He analysed the macroeconomic forces shaping an uncertain but opportunity-filled landscape for companies capable of anticipating change.

One of the most inspiring moments came during a fireside chat on hedging strategy management, featuring Ángel de Rivas, CFO of Sanicen S.A., and Juan Manuel Gómez Sánchez, Head of Global Internal Networks Spain at BBVA. The practical discussion illustrated how companies can mitigate risks and enhance resilience in international operations.

Sustainability then took centre stage. Matthieu López, Vice President of Carbon Markets at BBVA, delivered a keynote on "Europe and Carbon – Regulations, Opportunities and the Role of the Voluntary Market", shedding light on the role of carbon markets in driving a low-emission economy.

The morning concluded with a session on structured Working Capital and Trade Finance solutions, led by Alejandra Alcalde, Head of Structured Solutions Sales Commercial Clients Spain at BBVA, who showcased financial tools to improve operational efficiency and support international growth.

Focus on the Dollar, Sustainability and Corporate Futures

The second day began with opening remarks by José García Casteleiro, Head of Commercial Banking Spain at BBVA. He reiterated BBVA’s commitment to supporting Spanish businesses with a differentiated value proposition rooted in innovation, sustainability, and expert guidance.

Roberto Cobo returned to the stage with his keynote "End of the Dollar Cycle? A Risk-Scoping Market Outlook", offering an insightful analysis of the world’s most influential currency amid shifting global dynamics.

This was followed by the roundtable “Go_Further: Supporting Your Ambition to Reach Further”, featuring Juan Moya, Vice President of Grupo Persan; Carlos Martínez Ceyanes, Director of Corporate Banking – Southern Region at BBVA; and Miriam Rodríguez-Carreño Poole, Executive Director, Corporate Loans Iberia at BBVA. The panel shared hands-on experiences on internationalisation, financing and innovation innovation

Ángel Giménez, Head of Sustainability for Corporate Banking in Spain at BBVA, delivered a keynote on “Sustainability Across the Value Chain”, highlighting how companies can embed ESG principles across their business and unlock new opportunities through responsible management.

The event concluded with a wrap-up by Asunción Álvarez, Regional Director of Corporate Banking at BBVA, who stressed the power and effectiveness of collaboration between CIB and BEI in delivering comprehensive, localised solutions to clients.

Global Internal Networks: una propuesta de valor global con foco en España

Beyond the formal agenda, the event also showcased the role of BBVA CIB’s Global Internal Networks team, which connects BBVA’s international expertise with the specific needs of Spanish clients.

In a world where supply chains,, financial markets and regulatory pressures are increasingly global, companies need strategic partners who can offer integrated, coordinated and tailored solutions.

Global Internal Networks acts as a bridge between global and local, providing clients with the reach of a bank present in key international markets, combined with the proximity of a team that understands the realities of Spanish businesses.

This translates into:

  • Risk management solutions (FX, interest rates, commodities)

  •  Structured finance and trade finance, helping firms optimise working capital and expand securely

  • Sustainability advisory, supporting the energy transition and ESG integration

  • Global market access with local expertise and cross-border coordination

Strengthening Client Proximity Through a Strategic Event

Hosting the event in Seville was not incidental. Beyond being an iconic city, it symbolised BBVA’s commitment to being close to its clients—listening to their needs and building trust-based relationships.

The event’s success was made possible by the participation of all speakers and attendees, whose insights, questions and contributions created a dynamic forum. A combination of inspirational talks, practical debates and networking opportunities strengthened ties between BBVA and the corporate world, reinforcing a model of proximity-based collaboration.

In short, the Global Markets Corporates Spain 2025 conference marked a turning point in BBVA’s relationship with its corporate clients—a chance to anticipate trends, share expertise and, most importantly, reaffirm our commitment to supporting Spanish companies in growing, innovating and leading in a constantly evolving global environment.
