The UK recognises BBVA as a key player in the energy transition
The British Embassy has recognised BBVA’s strategic role in advancing a low-carbon economy and its leadership in demanding markets such as the United Kingdom. The 2025 UK-Spain Business Awards strengthen BBVA’s position as a benchmark in sustainability and financial innovation, acknowledging its ability to mobilise investment towards key sectors of the energy transition.
BBVA received the Empowering Energy Transition award at the sixth edition of these accolades, which honour companies driving the transformation of the energy model through innovative, responsible, and sustainable solutions. The award highlights BBVA’s strategy to support companies and projects on their path to decarbonisation, combining specialised financing with technological innovation.
The strong relationship between Spain and the United Kingdom, characterised by growing mutual investment and active business collaboration, provides an ideal framework for institutions like BBVA to continue advancing their sustainability commitments on a global scale.
“This award reflects BBVA’s commitment to the energy transition from a truly global perspective,” said Anselmo Andrade, Head of BBVA Corporate & Investment Banking in the UK. “Our London hub plays a central role in the bank’s strategy: a key financial centre that enables us to connect Europe with international markets and accelerate the financing of sustainable solutions. The UK-Spain relationship is not only deep but also strategic, and this recognition strengthens our ambition to continue acting as a bridge between both countries to drive greener, more inclusive growth.

For his part, Alex Ellis, the British Ambassador to Spain, remarked: “The UK-Spain Business Awards highlight the strong and dynamic relationship between our two countries. The United Kingdom is Spain’s fifth most important trading partner, with bilateral trade in goods and services exceeding €70 billion. By showcasing outstanding achievements in sectors such as clean energy, healthcare, financial services, innovation, and social inclusion, these awards recognise the companies driving growth in our economies. This celebration of ambition and collaboration comes at a pivotal moment, coinciding with the UK’s new Industrial Strategy, making it especially timely to honour the companies leading this transformation.”
This recognition underscores BBVA’s contribution to UK-Spain economic cooperation, consolidating its role as a financial bridge in an international context shaped by major challenges in sustainability and innovation.
