Sectoral approach in transactional banking: BBVA continues to enhance specialization in its advisory services
BBVA CIB’s transactional banking division has overhauled its sector specialization model since last past year to deliver more tailored solutions aligned with the needs of its corporate and institutional clients. With this new segmentation approach, the business unit reinforces its commitment to operational efficiency and value creation in companies’ day-to-day financial management.
Since last year, BBVA CIB has undertaken a comprehensive transformation of its sector-based specialization model across its business areas—including Global Transaction Banking (GTB)—aimed at improving operational efficiency and offering solutions more closely aligned with the specific needs of its corporate and institutional clients. This transformation has involved more rigorous client segmentation based on company size and industry, ensuring more accurate resource allocation and a more targeted approach aligned with each sector’s particular characteristics.
As a result of this strategy, the GTB business unit has restructured its model, significantly enhancing both productivity and commercial performance. The segmentation has also enabled closer alignment with each industry’s evolving trends. Consequently, bankers are now able to provide comprehensive transactional solutions, positively impacting both profitability and client experience. This sector-driven approach allows for more precise identification of growth opportunities, facilitates faster decision-making, and supports the development of more sophisticated value propositions.
According to Eva Rubio, Head of Global Transaction Banking at BBVA, “this process marks a significant structural shift that allows us to operate with greater clarity and focus. Industry-aligned segmentation, together with the specialization of our bankers, enables us to consolidate our strategic vision of the business, strengthen client relationships, and enhance our capacity to deliver specialized advisory services.”
