BBVA CIB Supports ESB in Advancing its Sustainable Finance Strategy

BBVA Corporate & Investment Banking (BBVA CIB) has supported Electricity Supply Board (ESB), Ireland's leading energy utility, in the development of its new Green Finance Framework and EU Green Bond Factsheet, strengthening the company's sustainable financing platform as it continues to invest in Ireland's transition to a net-zero energy system.

“This new framework reinforces ESB’s long-term commitment to sustainable finance while providing investors with a transparent foundation for future green bond issuances,” said Anne Marie Kean,  ESB Group Treasurer. “As we continue investing in Ireland’s renewables generation and grid infrastructure, maintaining a robust and credible sustainable financing framework remains a key priority.”

For BBVA, the mandate reflects the growing importance of sustainability capabilities in helping issuers build long-term financing systems aligned with market standards.

“Our role extends beyond structuring an individual financing,” said Gabriel Deniz Marrero, Head of Utilities, Sustainability & Low Carbon Advisory.  “We work alongside clients to develop sustainable financing strategies that support their long-term business objectives while responding to the expectations of investors and the broader market.”

“Companies today are looking beyond individual transactions and focusing on building long-term sustainable financing platforms,” said Michael Ridley, ESG Debt Capital Markets. "By supporting clients in developing robust financing frameworks aligned with market standards, we help position them to access sustainable capital efficiently as their funding needs evolve.”

The publication of the Green Finance Framework and EU Green Bond Factsheet lays the foundation for future labelled green finance instruments and reflects the continued development of sustainable finance across European capital markets.
