BBVA closes two strategic transactions with Barry Callebaut in Belgium
BBVA has reached two significant milestones in its relationship with Barry Callebaut, the global leader in the cocoa and chocolate industry: the recent closing of a sustainability-linked Borrowing Base Facility and a €100 million participation in its global Supply Chain Finance program. Both transactions represent a significant step forward for the bank’s franchise in the Belgian market and strengthen its ability across Europe to support large international corporates with sophisticated financial solutions.
The recent closing of Barry Callebaut’s Borrowing Base Facility represents one of the key milestones in this relationship. The facility is a financing structure designed to adapt to the company’s operational needs and linked to sustainability indicators. BBVA acted as Mandated Lead Arranger, playing a relevant role in the structuring of the financing, with €125 million allocated by the bank to the facility. The transaction therefore combines a solution tailored to the company’s liquidity needs with specific sustainability commitments.
This transaction is complemented by BBVA’s participation in Barry Callebaut’s global Supply Chain Finance program, which marks a precedent for the bank in Belgium. The transaction is structured through a Master Participation Agreement, a framework that enables BBVA to join the company’s global supplier finance program. This is the first time the franchise in Belgium has executed a structure of this kind, expanding its ability to participate in international supply chain finance solutions.
“These two transactions reflect the evolution of our relationship with Barry Callebaut and, at the same time, the development of new capabilities for BBVA in Europe and, specifically, in Belgium. Being able to support a global leader with solutions ranging from supply chain finance to structures linked to sustainability objectives demonstrates our ability to respond to increasingly complex financial needs,” says Matías Viola Ochoa, Country Manager of BBVA Belgium.
The two milestones with Barry Callebaut highlight the evolution of BBVA in Belgium and its ability to participate in increasingly sophisticated and innovative financial structures. This combination of new financing approaches, sustainability-linked solutions and deep client knowledge also reinforces the role of the franchise within the bank’s European strategy.
