BBVA CIB strengthens its global organisation by promoting internal talent
Following the organisational changes announced by BBVA last July, with a strong focus on the bank’s transformation in this new era, BBVA Corporate & Investment Banking (CIB) has announced a series of new appointments in key areas. The changes aim at continuing to drive business growth, strengthening collaboration across its global capabilities and further advancing a model increasingly focused on clients’ needs.
This new phase also underscores BBVA CIB’s commitment to developing internal talent and fostering diverse career paths within a global franchise. The appointments bring together professionals with experience across different geographies, products and business areas, reflecting a culture in which mobility and knowledge-sharing across teams serve as levers to develop new capabilities and deliver comprehensive solutions to clients.
The changes follow the recent renewal of BBVA’s leadership team and come at a time of strong growth for the Group’s corporate and investment banking franchise. Through these appointments, BBVA CIB aims to continue advancing the execution of the division’s strategic priorities, leveraging its global scale, sector expertise and product excellence to support corporate and institutional clients across all its markets.
In this context, Jaime Artola, until now Global Head of Structured Finance, will take responsibility for Sustainability, Industries & Cross Border (SIX) and will also lead BBVA Spark. Artola has extensive experience in investment banking and a deep understanding of client needs. Before leading Structured Finance globally, he was Head of M&A for EMEA. His new role brings together sector expertise, sustainability and cross-border activity, while further strengthening the value proposition for the entrepreneurial and innovation ecosystem through Spark.
Susana de Pablo, until now Head of Investment Banking & Finance for EMEA, South America and Turkey, will become the new Global Head of Structured Finance. In this role, she will continue to develop CIB’s global financing capabilities and support the growth of this strategic business for the franchise.
Nicolas Allano, until now Head of Global Equities, has been appointed Head of CIB France. The move marks a transition from the global leadership of a product business to the overall management of the CIB franchise in a strategic geography, bringing his Global Markets experience and deep client knowledge to further develop BBVA’s presence in the French market.
To succeed him as Head of Global Equities, Marc Fauvain, until now Head of Equities Americas, will take over the leadership of the business. Fauvain has a strong track record in equities and extensive international experience within BBVA, where he has held senior positions in Mexico and the United States.
In addition, Gonzalo Romera is expanding his responsibilities as Head of Strategy, Talent & Culture and Business Support, adding the Strategy and Digital Assets functions to his remit. The new structure brings together under a single leadership key capabilities for CIB’s strategy and transformation, while reinforcing their alignment with the business’s priorities.
These appointments follow the organisational changes recently announced by BBVA, under which Roberto Albaladejo will assume global responsibility for the Group’s Strategy & M&A function and Marian Navarro will take over as Head of the Chairman’s Office. Against this backdrop, BBVA CIB further consolidates its position as a key platform for talent and leadership across the Group.
Javier Rodríguez Soler, Global Head of Sustainability and CIB at BBVA, said: “A truly global organisation is one that gives its professionals the opportunity to grow by taking on challenges across different businesses, functions and geographies. BBVA CIB is a clear example of this: it is attractive to external talent, but above all, it is an environment where our teams can build some of the most ambitious careers in investment banking. Developing leaders with a broad, cross-functional perspective is an exceptional value we can bring to our clients.”
Taken together, these moves reflect a talent development model based on internal promotion, mobility and international exposure, fostering knowledge-sharing and greater collaboration across teams. With this evolution, BBVA CIB is further strengthening a global, connected organisation that is well positioned to support business growth and continue developing leaders with a broad perspective across both CIB and BBVA as a whole.
