BBVA supports Emperador International in a sustainability-linked syndicated financing
BBVA has acted as Mandated Lead Arranger, Bookrunner and Underwriter (MLAUB), as well as Sustainability Coordinator, for a EUR 300 million sustainability-linked syndicated loan granted to Emperador International, Ltd., one of the world’s leading producers of brandy and whisky.
The transaction, structured as a sustainability-linked term loan, has an initial tenor of three years, with an option to extend for an additional two years. It incorporates key sustainability performance indicators aligned with the environmental commitments of the Philippine group, marking Emperador International’s first-ever sustainability-linked loan and a landmark transaction for a Philippine F&B group.
The proceeds will be used to refinance existing debt, allowing Emperador International to optimize its maturity profile while continuing to advance the integration of sustainability criteria into its financial structure.
In this context, BBVA played a pivotal role in structuring the transaction, further strengthening its positioning in sustainable finance and its ability to execute complex transactions on a global scale.
“This financing reflects our commitment to supporting our clients at every stage of their growth, particularly in their international expansion and in the integration of sustainability criteria into their financial strategy,” said Hedi Ben Salem, Managing Director, responsible for Corporate Lending EMEA & Asia. “This success highlights our ongoing work with responsible businesses in Asia’s competitive landscape”.
Transactions like this reinforce BBVA’s presence in Asia, where its combination of local expertise, global reach and specialization in sustainable finance positions it as a key player in the region’s syndicated loan market.
