BBVA Mexico boosts its Global Markets business
BBVA Mexico, the largest financial group in the country, announces an ambitious plan to grow its Global Markets business. The entity has set itself the objective for 2026 to update and improve market execution systems with a special focus on products and services dedicated to wholesale clients. Within the same context, it also announces the appointment of Marliz Mejía as head of sales for institutional clients in Mexico.
The Global Markets business unit of BBVA Mexico is keen to boost its already strong positioning with wholesale customers and has therefore launched an ambitious growth plan for 2026 aimed at enhancing and consolidating the services offered to this client segment. Improvements in execution systems and investments in tools that deliver a better understanding of clients and their needs are part of the plan.
This boost to the business in Mexico is aligned with the product plans of the Global Markets division on a global scale. The entity is working on strengthening execution platforms in Investment Solutions to give a better experience to clients. Meanwhile, the Credit Markets business is expanding its range of high value-added and cross-border solutions for issuers and investors. Foreign Exchange (FX) products are capitalizing on the investment cycle to attract and retain wholesale customers, and operating systems are being improved. Last but not least is the planned development of products linked to Fixed Income, where the regulatory changes to the TIIE and the electronification of underlying assets are rapidly changing the way clients are served and how operations are conducted in the local market.
The institutional clients business is a key growth lever for BBVA CIB and the entity recently appointed Juan Blasco as head of the institutional business with the aim of strengthening activity with this client segment.
Within this same framework of investment and growth, Marliz Mejía, formerly of Deutsche Bank, joins the BBVA CIB team as head of sales for institutional clients in Mexico. Mejía will be responsible at the local level for the value chains of Emerging Markets Flow, Macro Flow and Balance Sheet Solutions.
She will report geographically to Manuel Meza, head of Global Markets Mexico, who notes: “At BBVA Mexico we are delighted to welcome Marliz to the Global Markets team. She has outstanding experience in comprehensive solutions for institutional clients and I'm certain that at BBVA she will find the right team and infrastructure to continue helping our clients."
