BBVA Mexico supports IDB Invest in MXN 3.5 billion social bond issuance in the local market

The proceeds will finance eligible projects with a positive social impact under IDB Invest's Sustainable Debt Framework, further strengthening its local-currency funding strategy.

BBVA Mexico acted as joint placement agent in the successful issuance of debt securities by the Inter-American Investment Corporation (IDB Invest), totaling MXN 3.5 billion with a three-year tenor. The transaction reinforces IDB Invest's consistent presence in the Mexican debt market, continuing its track record of completing one issuance per year since 2018.

The securities, issued under the ticker symbol “BIDINV 1-26S”, were placed as a floating-rate Social Bond, priced at the overnight funding TIIE plus 31 basis points (bps), two basis points tighter than the initial price thoughts (IPTs). The issuance holds the highest credit ratings on the Mexican national scale: Aaa.mx from Moody’s and AAA(mex) from Fitch Ratings. At the global level, IDB Invest maintains credit ratings of AAA from S&P Global, Aa1 from Moody’s and AAA from Fitch, all with stable outlooks.

The transaction attracted total demand of MXN 4.544 billion, representing a subscription level of 1.3 times the amount issued. It drew participation from a broad investor base, reflecting institutional investors' confidence in IDB Invest's financial strength and credit profile.

Social Bond and use of proceeds

The Social Bond was issued under IDB Invest's Sustainable Debt Framework, which is aligned with the International Capital Market Association's (ICMA) Social Bond Principles and Green Bond Principles, and has a second-party opinion from V.E.

The proceeds will be used to finance or refinance eligible projects across the framework's social categories: affordable basic infrastructure, access to essential services, food security and sustainable food systems, employment generation and programs to alleviate unemployment resulting from economic crises, and socioeconomic advancement and improvement. The allocation of proceeds and their impact will be reported annually, with an independent external review by Sustainalytics.

IDB Invest's sustainable debt program has issued more than USD 6.2 billion in green, social and sustainability bonds, representing approximately 45% of its outstanding debt, since the launch of the IDB Sustainable Debt Framework.

Financial strength and market relevance

IDB Invest maintains a significant position in financing infrastructure, corporates and financial intermediaries across Latin America and the Caribbean. As of the end of June 2026, its development portfolio reached USD 10.675 billion, up 5.4% from year-end 2025 and 27% compared with 2024.

The institution has a strong balance sheet and high levels of liquidity and capitalization, with total assets of USD 16.103 billion, 30% of which are liquid assets, and net worth of USD 4.249 billion, compared with debt of USD 10.831 billion.

By supporting IDB Invest, BBVA Mexico reaffirms its commitment to channeling funds towards projects with a positive social impact and contributing to the development of Mexico's sustainable debt market.
